The object of the game is to win as much money as possible and to see how your virtual betting account balance stacks up against other players in the game.

Each player starts with a virtual betting account with $500 virtual dollars. Your challenge is to see how much you can turn this into by betting and winning on events offered by the House of Monte.

Pick the winner correctly of real life events and the amount you win will be determined by how much you and other players have invested.

To win money you will need to invest your virtual money by betting on the real life events that the House of Monte offers e.g. the result of an All Black vs. Wallaby rugby union game. You can place a bet on the outcome with as much of your virtual money as you like. Naturally the more you invest, the more you stand to make (or lose).

The House of Monte offers floating odds that are 100% based on how the other players in the game have invested. If the majority of players have selected Team A to win over Team B, the payout dividend if Team A wins will be considerably smaller than Team B, however if Team B wins, the payout could be very handsome for players who backed Team B. The House of Monte always adds 30% to each betting pool so the odds will never fall below $1.30 return for every $1.00 invested, no matter how heavily one team is backed over the other.

This means that if you make the same call as all the other players, your return won't be very large. However if you can correctly pick the upset, you will be rewarded well.

The House of Monte will offer virtual betting on a variety of real life sporting events including Rugby Union (International, Super 12, NPC), Rugby League (NRL, Super League), Cricket, Soccer and more. The House of Monte will pay out based on the actual result of the event.

Each event has a closing date and time [NZ Time] for betting. You will be able to place and modify bets on the event up to this point. Once this point has passed, the book is frozen and the final dividend is determined by how the players have invested at that time. The players who selected the correct result will then receive their winning dividend into their account once the result has been confirmed and loaded.

You can only place one bet per event.

If you do well enough to turn your $500 into $100,000 you will earn a silver star and enter the Monte Hall of Fame. Once you reach $100,000 you get to chase your next star starting with $1,000

Real life bookies and betting agencies take money from their betting pools for tax and for profit to stay in business (fair enough). The House of Monte does not have these restrictions and in fact, has the luxury of doing quite the opposite by adding money into each betting pool. For every virtual dollar invested by players, the House of Monte adds 30% to that betting pool. This means that odds will never fall below $1.30 return for every $1.00 invested no matter how heavily backed one team may be over another. It will also produce some very tempting rewards on not so favoured teams.

Floating odds mean the final payout dividend will only be determined by how you and the other players in the game have spread your virtual money at the time the betting closes for the event. This means the odds listed at the time you placed your bet may be different by the time the book is closed and frozen. Keep your eye on the odds because they will move!
